OnePlus owners have been waiting for Android 17, and it has started arriving earlier than promised. But there is a big change attached: the update comes as ColorOS 17, not OxygenOS.
What is rolling out
OnePlus has begun the stable Android 17 rollout for the OnePlus 15 and the OnePlus Pad 4. The update started in India on October 23, 2026, after a fairly long beta period. OnePlus had previously said the first stable updates would begin on October 29, so this is nearly a week ahead of schedule. People who joined the ColorOS 17 open beta are reported to be getting the stable build first.
The end of OxygenOS
OxygenOS began as a near-stock skin with a few extras, but over time it became a globally tuned version of Oppo’s ColorOS. When OnePlus shut down most of its global operations, it was announced that OxygenOS would go away and existing devices would move to ColorOS. The OnePlus 15 and Pad 4 are the first devices to make that switch, so for owners this update brings a new Android version and a new software identity at the same time.
OnePlus says eligible users can roll back to OxygenOS, but it has not confirmed which OxygenOS versions support the downgrade. If you rely on a specific setup, back up your data before updating.
Who gets it next
- Wave one (now): OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4, starting in India.
- October 30: the next wave, which includes the OnePlus 13. The OnePlus 15R and OnePlus 13s are also expected to follow.
- Later: OnePlus has confirmed last-generation flagships and a range of Nord phones, though exact dates for those have not been detailed.
Rollouts are usually staged, so the update may take a few days to reach every unit, and other regions can lag behind India. You can check manually in Settings under software updates.
Why it matters
This is the clearest sign yet of how OnePlus’s software strategy is changing. The brand that once won fans with a clean, fast Android experience is now delivering its flagship updates through its sister company’s ColorOS. Whether that is good or bad will depend on how ColorOS 17 feels in daily use on OnePlus hardware, and early user feedback in the coming days will tell the story.
The reports tied to this rollout are based on early information, so details such as device lists and dates could shift as OnePlus expands the update.
